About Us

Suzie Gillon & Lucy Adkinson took one of the early sittings of the Specialty Certificate Examination, and were disappointed in the lack of revision resources available at the time. As a result they wanted to use their experience to help other trainees pass the exam, and in 2014 the first revision course was born! From these informal beginnings, the SCE course has grown in popularity whilst retaining its relaxed ethos thanks to Suzie and Lucy’s personable approach to peer education and their dedication of free time. Former delegate Jonathan joined them in 2017, keen to offer further help, and bringing with him the SCE Flashcards. Rosanna, another former delegate, joined in 2021 to help us keep our content current and our operations organised! Now Lucy, Jonathan, and Rosanna are the individuals who make up the Pallmedpro educational partnership.

Dr Lucy Adkinson

BSc (hons), MbChB, MRCP (Palliative Medicine), PGCCE

Lucy graduated from Leeds University in 2007 and trained in West Yorkshire until her consultant post took her to Doncaster in 2015. Here, she enjoys teaching a variety of professionals. Lucy co-founded the SCE revision course in 2014 and is pleased that the course continues in popularity and is keen to take it from strength to strength through continual review and development.

Lucy enjoys meeting and speaking with colleagues from all over the UK over the period of the course. In her spare time, Lucy loves walks in the English countryside with her greyhound Norman.

Dr Jonathan Pickard

MBBS, MRCP (Palliative Medicine), PGCert Med Ed, FHEA

Jonathan is a Consultant in Palliative Medicine in the North East. Graduating from Newcastle University in 2010, Jonathan furthered an interest in teaching by completing a postgraduate certificate in medical education with distinction and gained subsequent accreditation as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

He regularly develops and delivers education and training to undergraduates, postgraduates and allied health professionals with a particular interest and focus on effective communication within his field of palliative medicine. Passionate about information technology, he compiled the SCE Flashcard resource and joined Pallmedpro in 2017 where he continues to put his digital expertise to use.

His presentation style and creativity is derived from years of professional level close-up performance magic, which Jonathan has enjoyed as a unique hobby for over 20 years.

Dr Rosanna Hill

Rosanna graduated from Newcastle University in 2010 and has been working in Yorkshire as a palliative medicine registrar since 2015.

Over the last 7 years she has developed her interest in palliative medicine teaching, and has been involved in a number of projects developing good quality and varied teaching resources for a wide range of professionals. Rosanna joined the team in 2021 and is passionate about ensuring the course content is current, and maximises the opportunity for learning and preparing for the SCE.

Outside work Rosanna likes to spend time with her 3 children Charlotte, Lucy and Sophie.

and Dr Suzie Gillon

MBBS, MRCP (Palliative Medicine), PGCert Med Ed, FHEA

Suzie graduated from Newcastle University in 2003, and has been working as a Consultant in Palliative Medicine at Leeds Teaching Hospitals since 2015. Suzie is the departmental lead for education and oversees an ambitious programme within the trust to provide education in palliative and end of life care to all clinical staff.

Suzie is one of the co-founders of the SCE revision course, and for eight years, dedicated a huge amount of her free time to ensuring the course was a success. In 2022, Suzie left the partnership to continue her great work as a consultant and educator within the NHS.
